New announcements for 10/30/14

Rho Kappa meeting has been moved to Monday 11/3 after school.

The key club will kick off the annual food drive this Friday night at the football game. Please bring cans and other non-perishable food items to help fill up a truck in the parking lot.

Not only is it the LAST home football game it’s Halloween! Come to the game dressed in your cutest and scariest costumes. The person dressed in the best costume will win: a $25 gift card to Buffalo Wild Wings!! Support the football players, have some fun, and come out to the game on Friday! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Announcements Week of 10/28/14

Attention AFJROTC Cadets:

There will be tutoring after school in the AFJROTC classroom today and every Tuesday from 3:00-4:30PM with special emphasis on math

Seniors: Cap and gown will be placed on Wed. during your civics class. If you are only ordering a cap and gown, no deposit is needed. If you order anything else, you need to bring your $95 deposit. Packets are available in the office. (Announce until Tues. 10/28)

Seniors: If you did not order the Big Picture, you still have time. You can turn in your orders in to Mrs. Elkins in rm 216 until Friday, Oct. 31. After that, orders can be mailed directly to the photographer at the address listed on the order form.

Tues, Wed, Thurs:

There will be a Rho Kappa meeting on Thursday after school. We will be electing officers, so be sure to be in Mrs. Simpson’s room at 3:00.

2014-2015 yearbooks are on sale now until Oct. 31^st. It costs $65 and can be turned in to Room 109.

Juniors-Order Your NHS class ring Wednesday October 29^th, during lunch in the library.  Herff Jones Ring order packets can be picked up in the office.  Please bring $800 deposit.  Rings ordered last year can be picked up.

Need community service hours, Pt. Harmony Elementary needs your help this Saturday at their annual Fall Festival.  Anyone Interested, please see Mrs. Douglas in the office to sign up.

Lockdown announcement

At approximately 9:33 this morning the NHS administration received a report than an unauthorized student was on campus. As safety is always our foremost concern, we took this opportunity to place the school on lockdown as a measure of extreme caution and to practice and evaluate our lockdown procedures. After an investigation the NHS administration deemed the campus safe and secure.

Many thanks to the sophomores who took the ACT PLAN this morning, Oct. 22nd.  You were, by far, the best group in SIX years!!   You did a great job of being on time, following directions, and keeping it quiet in the room.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!  You represented your class well!

Great win by the girls soccer team last night in sectional play against Point Pleasant

The boys soccer team takes on Hurricane in sectional play this evening on our home field. The game kicks off at 5:00 pm

Senior Baby Pictures

Friday, October 31st is the deadline to turn in your baby pictures for graduation.  Turn your picture into Mrs. Petry or Ms. Mann or send them via email.  Please select a picture of when you were a baby or toddler.  If you can't pick, bring two in and be surprised of which one was selected at graduation!

ACT PLAN

Sophomores, don't forget we are taking the ACT PLAN tomorrow.  Report directly to the auditorium for first period.  Bring a calculator and a couple of #2 pencils.

College Colors Day

Students and staff, College Colors Day is Thursday, Oct. 23rd.  Wear the colors of your favorite college or university.  Represent!

Apply to Concord University for free this week!

In celebration of West Virginia's College Application and Exploration Week, Concord University is waiving their application fee for this week only.  If you are interested in Concord, it's a great time to apply online!

Weekly Announcements for the week of Oct 20

Seniors – We need to make the “Big Picture” on Friday look as good as possible! Wear your red or black shirts to show your Nitro Senior Pride!

Congratulations to the Nitro Band! The band performed at 2 competitions on Saturday. The band received 3^rd place percussion & 2^nd place flags at Marshall University. The band also performed at WV State for the Cavalcade of Bands festival and received the following awards in the yankee class: 1^st place percussion, 1^st place drum major, 1^st place flags, 1^st place band overall. Out of 13 bands, Nitro was 1^st runner up Grand Champion overall!

College Representative Schedule

A representative from Marshall University will be in the lunchroom during both lunches on Monday, October 20th. The $30 application fee will be waived.

A representative from WV Junior College will be in the lunchroom during both lunches on Tuesday, October 21st.

A representative from Radford University will be in the counseling center at 12:15 on Tuesday, October 21st. Students must sign up with Mrs. Lester  before the 21st.

• There will be a softball meeting immediately after school today 8/15/14. All girls need to be there.
