Free Leadership Seminar for a 10th Grader!

10 Grade:  We are looking for a sophomore student interested in attending a FREE leadership seminar this summer @ Marshall University.  Interested students can see Mrs. Watson in the counseling office for more information.  You must submit a 1-2 page essay, topic "What does it take to be a leader?" by Friday, Dec. 5th.  Only one student will be chosen!

U.S. Marines

Ever thought of joining the U.S. Marines?  Sgt. Joseph Wood will be in the ROTC classroom during both lunches for anyone interested in learning about careers and scholarships with the Marines.  Everyone is welcome!

Concord University

Concord University will have a table in the cafeteria tomorrow, Nov. 19th, at lunch.  Find out all about them!  If you have ever thought of attending, it's a great time to ask questions!

Financial Aid Night

Nitro High School is hosting a Financial Aid Night for seniors and parents/guardians.  A financial aid staff person will be presenting information about financial aid as well as the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).  Be sure to come and spread the word!

Ben Franklin Tour for 10th Graders

All tenth grade students will be taking a tour of Ben Franklin on Tuesday, November 18, 2015, from 8:30 am to 11:00 am.  It's a great opportunity to ask questions, learn about programs and think about your future!

Announcement Week of 11/10/14

The Kanawha Valley Spartans Lacrosse Club is looking for players for the 2015 spring season. Any Kanawha Valley high school student who attends a school that does not offer lacrosse may sign up. All info is in office.

Listen up Wildcats! There will be a Cheerleading Tryout held on November 22nd for anyone who wants to cheer this Basketball Season. Interested? Cheer Clinics will be held on Tuesday 18th, Wednesday 19th, and Friday 21st. The three cheer clinics will be mandatory if you want to tryout. A brief meeting to gain more information will be held Monday 17th in Kerber’s Room 204 @ 3:00.


2015 Volleyball Season Meeting
When: November 18

Time: 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Where: Nitro School commons area

Every athlete that plans to try out for the 2015 season (parents do not have to attend)


Agenda: This meeting you will be provided with the expecting of offseason activities, information of camps and clinics, open gyms, workouts, and expectations of tryouts for 2015. We want to see this program grow and become a contender, so we have put together programs to keep the Athletes Physical Body, Skill level and mental toughness sharp in the offseason and prepare them for next seasons tryouts. We will also take any questions that you may have.


Greater Kanawha Valley Scholarships

Seniors, the window to apply for scholarships through The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation has opened!  The deadline to submit applications is Jan. 15, 2015.  Apply!  It's money for college!

The Nitro Police Department is currently investigating a message that was reported to the administration concerning a safety threat made to the school.  Nitro High school is operating on a normal schedule as all students and staff are safe.  This message is to keep you informed as many messages may circulate through social media with incorrect information.
