Key Club Donations

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, NHS Key Club is collecting donations of packages of socks and thin maxi pads for the homeless through the rest of November. The socks need to be new, unopened packages (for men, women, and/or children). Please bring any donations to Ms. Clark in Rm. 201.

RHO Kappa

 RHO Kappa Members and Inductees will need to meet in the auditorium on Wednesday during NHS Block.

DECA

Through the whole month of November, DECA will be collecting new or gently used blankets for the Harmony House in Huntington for our community service project. The Harmony House is a shelter for the underprivileged and is in desperate need of blankets. Blankets may be turned in to Ms. Mangus until November 30th, your help is greatly appreciated!

Corn Hole Tournament

Please come out and support NHS DECA in their first annual corn hole tournament. Teams of 2 people will be competing on Friday, October 19, 2018 from 4:30-6:30. This tournament will take place before the Senior Night Football game on Nitro High Soccer Field. The cost is $20.00 a team. The winning team will receive a cash prize! All proceeds will support Nitro High DECA students for future competitions. Please sign up in advance in either Ms. Mangus' room or on the google doc found on the school facebook.

Winter Formal

If you can name the very first principal of Nitro High School you can purchase a Winter Formal ticket for the reduced rate of $20.00. Come see Mrs Harless on October 12th in Room 209. Winter Formal will be held at the University of Charleston on December 8th, 2018 from 8 pm to 11 pm. DJ Nick Scott, previous DJ of Electric 102 will be providing the music.
(All grade levels are allowed to attend!)

ASVAB Career Exploration

ATTENTION ALL SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS, AND SENIORS: 

THE ASVAB CAREER EXPLORATION/APTITUDE TEST WILL BE ADMINISTERED ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30TH FROM 8:30AM-12:00PM IN THE SCHOOL AUDITORIUM. THIS TEST, ONE OF THE BEST OF ITS KIND IN THE UNITED STATES, IS ADMINISTERED AT NO COST, AND INCLUDES EIGHT INDIVIDUAL AREAS FOR CAREER APTITUDE, ASSESSMENT, AND IDENTIFICATION. IT IS ALSO A VALUABLE TOOL USED IN PREPARING FOR THE ACT THAT IS REQUIRED FOR COLLEGE ENTRANCE AND SCHOLARSHIPS! 

YOUR DECISION TO ENTER COLLEGE, TECHNICAL OR VOCATIONAL SCHOOL, MILITARY SERVICE OR THE CIVILIAN WORKFORCE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL IS AN IMPORTANT ONE AND THE ASVAB CAREER EXPLORATION TEST CAN BE OF SIGNIFICANT BENEFIT IN HELPING YOU TO FIND AND CHOOSE THE RIGHT CAREER FOR YOU!

RHO KAPPA

Applications for membership to RHO KAPPA Social Studies Honor Society are now being accepted for consideration. If you would like to apply to become a member of RHO KAPPA, please pick up an application packet in the office. Applications are due to Ms. Chandler in Room 212 by October 19th.

Financial Aid Workshop

We will hosting a Financial Aid Workshop this Tuesday, October 2nd at 6pm. Experts will be on hand to discuss the financial process and how to pay for higher education. Learn about the specifics when it comes to grants, scholarships and loans.

Tux and Drape

Tux and Drape pictures for graduation and the yearbook will be taken this Friday during school. Please check the list posted on Schoology to see what time you are scheduled. If your name is not on the list, see Ms.Grant immediately.

Homecoming Dance

The Homecoming Dance for Nitro High School will take place on Saturday October 6, 2018 from 8:00-11:00 in the Commons. We have surpassed the amount of tickets necessary to hold the dance, so it is definitely a go. Don't miss out on the first Homecoming Dance Nitro has had in a number of years. It's going to be a great time. Tickets are on sale now for $15.00, and are sold in the auditorium. Guest forms may also be picked up now.

Homecoming Voting

Students, you have until Wednesday at noon to vote for Homecoming attendant for your class. Use the link in Schoology to cast your vote.

Showchoir

The Show Choir is currently looking for 5 more boys for show choir, along with 3 more trumpets, 2 trombone players, and a synthesizer player. Please see Ms. Amy in room B126 for information.

Homecoming Dance

 The 2018 Nitro High School Homecoming Dance will take place on Saturday, October 6th, 2018 from 8:00-11:00 pm in the Commons.
Ticket Price is $15.00 per person.
Music by AAA Entertainment, and food will be provided.
Attire will be Semi-Formal. (Dressy attire, but not a formal event).
Tickets can be purchased beginning Monday August 27th in the Show Choir Room. B126 in Baker.

Dance Team

If you are interested in becoming a member of the NHS Dance Team, the tryout clinic begins today, May 9th, at 4:30 in the gym and continues May 10th at 4:30. Tryouts are on May 11th at 5:00 in the gym.

Prom

Prom is right around the corner!! If you are a junior, and you are interested in helping decorate this year's prom, please come to the following prom meetings in Room 215.

Mrs. Kerber will be assigning each junior a "team" and you guys will be responsible for multiple parts of the decorations. Prom Meetings will be TODAY NHS Block, Monday during NHS Block, Wednesday during NHS Block, and Thursday NHS Block.

Friday evening we will be decorating for this year's Junior Senior Prom-- making the theme of "Written in Time" the best Prom at Nitro High School yet!

Gardening Club

The NHS Gardening Club will have a CAR WASH, Saturday, April 28, from 9am till 1pm, on the Baker Parking Lot.

Cheerleading

Tonight there will be a meeting for anyone wanting to tryout for the 2018-2019 Cheerleading squad. It will be at 5:30 in the commons. Come out to see what it's all about!

Donuts

 Key club is selling Krispy Kreme donuts & donut coupons. The last day for this sale will be Friday. Please see a key club member or Mrs. Gordon in room 201 to purchase yours!!

Dance Team

For anyone interested in trying out for the 2018-2019 Nitro High School Dance Team, there will be a parent/student information meeting on Monday April 30th at 6:00 PM in the commons. Clinic dates will be Wednesday May 9th and Thursday May 10th from 4:30-6:00 and tryouts will be Friday May 11th at 5:00 in the gym. For more information please see Ms. Mangus or Ms. Chandler.

Honor Society

 NHS Honor Society is accepting applications for new members. A list of eligible candidates has been posted on the office window. Please see Mr. Shamblin for an application. All applications must be returned by 3:00pm, Friday February 2nd.
