Pride of Park Avenue

Congratulations to Mr. Brooks and the Nitro High School Marching WildCats on their outstanding performance and at the Annual Daily Mail Kanawha County Majorette Festival. The Marching WildCats received Gold Medals, the highest ranking possible in the Drum Line category and Drum Major Category. The Band was awarded a Silver Medal in Marching, Band Playing, Color Guard, and General Effect. The Marching WildCats were awarded 2nd Runner Up to Festival Grand Champion. Way to go Mr. Brooks and The Pride of Park Avenue.

National Merit Semifinalist

Congratulations to Erica Larijani who has been recognized as a National Merit Semifinalist! She earned this recognition based on her scores on the PSAT/National Merit Qualifying Test, which is taken by about 1.6 million high school juniors. She represents less than 1% of US high school seniors who took the exam. Congratulations Erica on such an amazing accomplishment!

Academy Day

UNITED STATES SENATOR SHELLEY MOORE CAPITO WILL BE HOSTING “2017 ACADEMY DAY” FOR ALL THOSE WEST VIRGINIA STUDENTS & PARENTS INTERESTED IN TRYING TO SECURE A NOMINATION TO ANY OF THE SERVICE ACADEMIES INCLUDING: THE U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, U.S. MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY, U.S. MILITARY ACADEMY AT WEST POINT, U.S. NAVAL ACADEMY, U.S. COAST GUARD ACADEMY & RESERVE OFFICERS’ TRAINING CORPS (ROTC).

ADMISSION REPRESENTATIVES FROM ALL OF THESE U.S. SERVICE ACADEMIES WILL BE PRESENT AT SOUTH CHARLESTON HIGH SCHOOL ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30th 2017 FROM 2:00-4:00PM.

WVU

Juniors and Seniors interested in potentially attending WVU, they will be holding a Meet WVU event in Charleston on Tuesday, October 3 at 5:30 pm at the Cultural Center. Please see your counselor for information on how to register for this event. WVU is offering an application fee waiver for students who attend!

Pictures

Senior Tux and Drape pictures that are used at graduation and the yearbook will be taken on Friday, Sept 15 during your Social Studies classes.

Also, underclassmen make up pictures from the first day of school will be taken on Friday, Sept. 15 as well. If you didn't have your picture made or you don't like your picture, please have it taken on Friday, Sept. 16

Bowling Club

The best club at Nitro High School, THE BOWLING CLUB, will be meeting on Tuesday September 5 in the auditorium during NHS Block. It does not matter if you are any good at bowling. Its about getting together and having fun. We hope to see you at the meeting.
