Money for College

Need money for college? We can help with that! Our school is hosting a financial aid workshop on Thursday, December 3rd at 6:00pm in the auditorium. Financial aid experts will be on hand to answer questions about state and federal financial aid, including West Virginia’s PROMISE Scholarship and the West Virginia Higher Education Grant. They will also cover how to fill out the FAFSA and other financial aid forms. Any student planning to pursue a certificate program, a two-year college degree, or a four-year college degree should attend.

Community Service Hours

Papa John's pizza

National Honor Society members are selling the Papa John's cards below for $10.  All monies raised will go directly to Basket of Hope, a local charity that helps local children suffering with life-threatening illnesses.  See an Homor Society member or Ms. Grant to get your card!

Poetry Out Loud

Poetry out loud participants, please get your poems to Mrs. Gordon (room 201) ASAP. You need 3 copies of each poem & to fill out some paper work. Remember you only need 2 poems for school competition with any of these requirements:
Pre-20th century; 25
Lines or fewer; your choice. The competition will be held this Friday 11/20 in the auditorium starting approximately at 8am- arrive on time for school :-)

Baton Twirling Team

The Baton Twirling Team will be practicing this week on Tuesday and Friday from 3:15-4:30. Please be dressed in black with tennis shoes and hair off of face.

Kizmet Chandler-Yard Sale

The students that will be going on the Washington, D.C. trip will be hosting an Indoor Yard Sale/ Bazaar on December 5th from 8am-12pm.  Table spaces are $10.  If your group would like to have a table, please let me know.

Swing Sing

Swing Sing is on Sunday,  November 15th at 2:30 pm, Charleston Municipal Auditorium.  Please come out and support our Nitro High School award winning Show Choir. Tickets may be purchased from any Nitro Showcat member or in Baker 126.  Ticket price is $8.00

Swing Sing

Swing Sing tickets are on sale for $8.00 in Ms. Amy's room, Baker 126.  Please come out on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm, Charleston Municipal Auditorium, to support the Nitro Showcats in their first performance of the season.

Seniors:  Baby Pictures for graduation slide show are due into Ms. Grant or Mrs. Petry by Dec. 18.  You can turn in a picture to be scanned and returned or you can email it to NHSseniorClass@gmail.com.

Cheerleaders

Good Luck to our Wildcat Cheerleaders, as they travel to Parkersburg tomorrow to compete in the MSAC Cheer Competition. They received 5th place at Regionals! Congratulations and Good Luck ladies!

Can Food Drive Update

Thank you to everyone that participated in our canned food drive.  We collected over 2700 food items.  A special thanks to Nitro Supermarket for their support in helping us bring in 1200 more cans than the school on the other side of the bridge brought in.

Canned Food Drive

Just a reminder that tomorrow is the last day for the canned food drive.  We are asking that everyone bring in an item or two to help the less fortunate in our community.  An added bonus is beating the school on the other side of the bridge.

Poetry Out Loud

Any students interested in Poetry Out Loud need to sign up with Mrs. Gordon (room 201) on Thursday 11/5 and Friday 11/6 in lab. The school competition will be November 20th starting at 8am; you must know 3 poems. 1- 25 lines or fewer; 2- pre-19th century; 3-your choice. CASH prizes awarded: $75 1st place and bid to the state competition in March; 2nd place $50; 3rd place $25

The Nitro High School Marching Band is having their annual fruit sale.  Please see Mr. Brooks, or any member of the band for information.

Canned Food Drive

Students, don't forget our canned food drive.  We sure don't want to let those Red Dragons win the contest.  Turn in cans to your 8th period teacher.  Remember, while this is a contest, it's also a way you can help people in our community that are going through a tough time.

Cathy Harless-Fall Blood Drive

The Nitro Fall Blood Drive will be November 19th in the gym.  Students can sign up in my room (209) anytime during the day and after school till 3:30. If we get between 71 to 100 good pints of blood the American Red Cross will donate $500.00 towards a scholarship.  All students, 16 and up are encouraged to participate.  Not only will you be helping in the quest to save a life, you could also receive a scholarship towards money for college! (Parental consent is mandatory for 16 yr olds.)

Battle of the Bridge

This Friday for the Battle of the Bridge will be a white out!! Be sure to be at the St. Albans Football field by 7:10pm on Friday to take part in our pregame activities.

Tickets are now available for Swing Sing.  Date, time, and location:  Sunday November 15, 2015, Charleston Municipal Auditorium, Showtime is at 2:30pm.  Tickets are available in the choir room or with any Showcat member for $8.00.

Congratulations to the NHS Cheerleaders for doing an awesome job at the GW Invitational Cheer Competition. Come out to support our girls this Saturday at Cabel Midland where they compete at Regionals. Good Luck ladies!
