Wrestling Meeting

There will be a short meeting at the beginning of both lunches on Friday, October 30th for all students interested in joining the wrestling team. Coach Ollom will be there to pass out all required papers and practice information.

The Battle of the Bridge Canned Food Drive is underway between Nitro and St. Albans! Not only will the wildcats and dragons be battling it out on the field, we will be battling it out against hunger. Wildcats - bring in your canned food by November 6

Baton Twirling

All those interested in being on the Baton Twirling Team, please meet in Ms. Amy's room tomorrow, October 28th,  from 3:30-4:30.  Bring batons please and clothes you can move in.  No bare feet.

Winter Formal

Winter Formal will be January 23rd, 2016 at the University of Charleston from 8:00 to 11:00 pm. Special ticket deals will be given the first of November. From November 2nd to the 6th, Single tickets will be $15 and couple tickets will be $30. Then the rest of the month tickets will be $20 and $40.00 for couples. December tickets will be $25 and $50 and January will be $30 and $60.00

College Colors Day

 In celebration of “College Application and Exploration Week”, our school is hosting a “College Colors Day!” Students and staff are encouraged to wear the colors of their favorite college or university. Our “College Colors Day” will be held this Thursday, October 29th.

Blood Drive

Blood Drive, November 19th, Main Gym from 8:30 to 2:00. Students can give at age 16 with parental consent. Those students 17 and older do not need a parental consent. Forms and more details can be picked up in Room 209 daily.

Home Internet Issue

KCS is working on an issue that would not allow student iPads to get on the internet from their homes.  The issue was first reported Monday afternoon.

Attention Elementary and Middle School Parents


This Friday October 30th, 2015, will be the 2nd Annual Smarter Balance Recognition night at the Nitro High School versus Huntington High School football game.  We will be sending home invitations and tickets this week to all elementary school and middle school students, in the Nitro High School feed area, that scored mastery or above on the Smarter Balance test,
The students will be recognized at halftime at the football game by walking/running across the field.  The students really enjoyed it last year so please make plans to attend.

IOS Update

Students starting this week we will be upgrading our wireless network at school.  This update will require the you to have the most up to date version of iOS on your iPad.  From your home please go to "Setting"and install the update.

Penny War

Tomorrow is the last day to help your class win the Penny War.  Each Penny brought in counts for a point towards your class total.  Sabotage other classes by placing silver coins and bills in there containers.  $1 cancels out 100 Penny points!

Announcements

Senior Night will be Friday,October 30th - Senior football, cheer, band, cross country, golf and ROTC members and their parents/guardians will be recognized. Recognition will be pregame - starting at 6:45.

Come out and support the boys soccer team this Wednesday at 5pm at City Park as they begin sectional play.

One bag of candy equals one ticket in the raffle to throw the Pie in the Face of the Administrator.

Movie Tickets are still available $5.00 each see Mrs Harless.

Penny Wars is now going on during Homecoming, stop by Ms. Grant's room and help your class win the War!

The poetry out loud school competition will be held on Friday November 13, 2015 in the morning. There will be a mandatory meeting for students wanting to participate on Monday 10/26 in lab, room 201.

Penny War

Help your class win the penny war by bringing in pennies to earn points.
Sabotage other grades by placing silver coins or bills in their containers.  $1.00 would cancel out 100 pennies brought in. Drop off coins in the morning to Ms. Grant's room, or place your money in the containers at lunch in the commons.

All proceeds will directly benefit local pediatric cancer patients.

IMPORTANT for Seniors to Read

Important message for 12th grade students:  It is WV State Law that all 12th grade students must show proof of age appropriate Tdap and MCV4 vaccinations before entering school on August 10th.
All seniors must have had one dose of Tdap and one dose of MCV4 vaccine.  Only one dose of MCV4 is required if the first dose was administered after their 16th birthday.  Seniors must provide the school nurse, Teresa Evans, with documentation from their doctor or the health department that shots are up-to-date.  If you have not turned in your documentation you will be excluded from school until we receive it.

Nitro's Very Own Theatrical Stars - Carrie Jo Rader and Max Ross

Nitro High School is proud to announce two of our students, Carrie Jo Rader and Max Ross, will be performing in theatrical productions.

Carrie Jo will be performing in "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" at the WVSU Capitol Center Theater in Charleston.  Performance dates are:

October 16 and 17 at 7:00 PM

Homecoming Excitment Is Just Around the Corner....Read for highlights

To help out the Nitro Police for their Halloween Hoedown for every bag of candy an individual student brings in they will be given that many tickets to be placed in a drawing to the lucky person to Pie In The Face an administrator. Bring candy to Mrs Harless in Room 209 to have a chance.
Pictures of the Administrators and Officer Blake will placed in the office and brought out during lunch. The one who has the most money at the end of the week will be the recipient of the infamous Pie In The Face.
Immediately after the game Friday night there will be a "Drive In" type movie night with a Scary Movie to be shown. Tickets are $5.00 a piece and 75 tickets MUST be sold in order to have the movie. Tickets can be purchased in Room 209 or during both lunches.

The Nitro High Chapter of the National Honor Society will be having their Penny Wars next week as well. Each grade level is encouraged to bring pennies for their grade bucket. But...there is a catch...anything other than pennies counts against the grade level the money is in. So if you are a Senior and put silver coins in the Junior bucket the Juniors get negative points!! Sounds like a great way to help one grade win while another tries to get out of debt! Save up your pennies and your silver and help your grade win the War!

Parent Teacher Conference Monday, October 12 from 2:00 - 8:00 PM Click for important information on scheduling

 Parent Teacher conference will be Monday, October 12 from 2:00 - 8:00 PM.   On Monday, October 5  your child received the form for you to mark times in which you would like to be scheduled.  Please have your child return the form to their teachers to schedule your designated time.  Once teachers have scheduled times on the form your child should return it to you.

Key Club is back!!! Show Choir
